There I am, visiting my parents over the winter holidays in Herford, where we have been in the Restaurant business for over twenty years now. Us being your typical restaurateur family, everything revolves around the family business, translating to me helping out as soon as I arrive. One of my childhood/teenage duties on weekends and during holidays was to accompany Dad buying ingredients - and it still is when visiting my birthtown.Ever since I was little I have gone to the butcher’s with Dad, seen cattle being butchered, processed, etc. and have butchered one or two chicken myself (including the ultra-tedious feather plucking).Yes, slightly gory, but if you eat and like meat, you should be able to take it. Meat does not grow on trees after all and killing and processing an animal will teach most people enough respect not to waste any meat on their plates. What I had not seen so far though, is a shrinkwrapped, slaughtered animal. A sight, somewhere between interesting and weird.
